Joe Colombo “Boby” Trolley, Model 3 – Original Bieffeplast Production, Italy, late 1970s–1980s
CHF 690
A beautifully preserved example of Joe Colombo’s iconic Boby storage trolley, produced by Bieffeplast, Padova during the highly sought‑after mid‑period manufacturing run (late 1970s–1980s). This era is prized for its rich ABS colour saturation, excellent mould quality, and the original industrial embossing that collectors look for.
This Model 3 configuration features three swing‑out trays, generous vertical storage, and Colombo’s signature cable port on the top surface. The trolley carries the correct embossed Bieffeplast mark (“bo by 3 / produzione bieffeplast padova italia / designer joe colombo / patented”), confirming authentic period production. The underside mould code “bo by 8 PATENTED” corresponds to the original Bieffeplast base‑plate tooling. As typical for this era, the bottom drawer is unsigned, consistent with mid‑period production batches.
The yellow ABS has aged evenly with a warm, saturated tone. The trolley retains its original black wheels with metal axles, seated in the deeper recessed housings characteristic of 1970s–80s moulds. All trays pivot smoothly, and the overall construction reflects the robust quality of pre‑1990s Bieffeplast manufacturing.
A functional design classic and a collectible example of Colombo’s visionary modular storage system — ideal for interiors, studios, and collectors seeking an original, pre‑B‑Line production.
